The Berlin Yacht Club has won the fifth Bundesliga regatta ahead of the German Touring Yacht Club (DTYC) from Bavaria and the Überlingen Sailing and Motorboat Club from Lake Constance. As a result, the Berlin team moved up to second place in the table behind the DTYC, which leads by an impressive 15 points. The two-time German club champions and defending champions from the Norddeutscher Regatta Verein in Hamburg sailed into third place in the table with fifth place this weekend.

"It really couldn't have gone any better. We never expected to win. The key to victory was probably consistency, good starts and a certain home advantage," said helmsman Max Nickel from the Berlin Yacht Club, who dominated the field together with Sven Rüggesiek, Heiner Wilkens and Philip Raabe. Julian Stückl, Maximilian Weiss, Luis Tarabochia and Tobias Bolduan scored points for the German Touring Yacht Club. Johannes Polgar, Florian Spalteholz, Florian Weser and Arnd Howar put the NRV boat on course for a podium finish.

The fifth meeting of the 18 first division teams in the third season of the still young German Sailing League took place at the Seglerhaus am Wannsee club in cooperation with the Potsdam Yacht Club. At the same time, the 18 second division teams were competing for valuable points in the promotion and relegation battle. Lübecker Yacht-Club, with Olympic Laser champion Simon Grotelüschen at the helm, came out on top ahead of Blankeneser Yacht-Club with helmsman Claas Lehmann and Potsdamer Yacht Club with skipper Martin Metzing. "It's amazing! We're really gutted, but delighted with the win. We simply had a good run. Good starts and a great team were our recipe for Berlin," said Simon Grotelüschen. Lindauer Segler-Club is the leader of the Second German Sailing League, ahead of Hamburger Segel-Club and Bayerischer Yacht Club.

While the first division teams still have two more regattas in Überlingen and Hamburg on the programme, the Berlin weekend marked the last regatta for the second division teams before the final in Überlingen, where both leagues will once again be in action at the same time from 25 to 27 September.

Sailing is like a constantly refreshing declaration of love for life."
